-In fences, death is one of the characters. Rather than the elusive unknown, death becomes an object that Troy attempts to battle. The unfinished fence that Troy was building around his home is completed only when Troy feels threatened by death. In one of the stories he tells, Troy relates how he once wrestled with death, and won. When the simmering conflict between Troy, and conflict finally erupts, and the boy leaves his fathers house for good,  it is death that Troy calls upon to do battle. And in the last scene, it is death that unites the family and helps bring resolution to their lives. When the family meets again at Troy's funeral, they are finally given a chance to bury the pain, and disappointments of their lives.

-In the play fences there is more then one theme, another one would be responsibility, and heart break, to be responsible you have to have the ability to be focused and never make up excuses. Troy is always making up excuse but then complains about putting up the fence, he past away, and never got to put up the fence. He should be watching the actions he takes instead of lying to his wife rose, that he would be going down to Taylor's when he would meeting up with Alberta. This had broken Rose's heart.

-Have you ever heard of a parent not allowing his or her child to follow there dreams?, I felt really bad for Cory. Because his father Troy did not want him to play football, because Troy thinks that the way his father was though on him he should be to his kids too. If I was Cory I would have run away because if I really wanted to play football. I would do anything to get to play football. Cory didn't want to go to his fathers funeral because his father didn't let him follow his dream so I guess he wanted to payback his father.
